Suzie McDermott Guy, age 80, of Three Rivers went to be with the Lord on Sunday morning Dec. 3, 2017 at Bowman Place. She was born in Hays, Kan. on Nov. 8, 1937, the daughter of Dr. Alza and Gladys (Ramsthel) McDermott.
Suzie graduated from North Hollywood High School and then UCLA with her Bachelor’s degree. Soon after her college graduation she married Duke Guy. Ten years later they moved from Hacienda Heights, Calif. to Three Rivers, Mich. Suzie received her Master’s degree from WMU in Elementary Education. She taught for a total of 29 years, a majority of the time in Three Rivers.
She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, Three Rivers Women’s Club, Red Hat Society, and a couple of bridge clubs. If you couldn’t catch her at home she was volunteering at the hospital, teaching adults to read, taking a pottery class, painting, reading, playing tennis, or exercising at HealthTrac. She was often visiting with family and good friends, playing cards or Mah Jongg, or traveling to Mexico, Germany, Norway, Turkey and any other exotic and far-flung location she could explore. During the summer months she was pontooning or zooming around Pleasant Lake on her jet ski!
She was preceded in passing by her parents, her husband of forty-one years, Duke Guy, and sisters, Bonnie Grey and Bette McDermott. Suzie leaves to cherish her memory; son, Robert “Bob” (Andrea) Guy of Three Rivers; daughter, Mary Guy Meyer and fiancé Jeff Maupin of Lee’s Summit Mo.; daughter Heimke (Stefan) Boeger of Germany; grandchildren, Marley and Olivia Guy, Sydney and Garrett Meyer; nieces, Susan, Jo, Carol, and Jerilyn; nephew, Greg; and her beloved cat, Mr. Boots.
We can have peace in our hearts knowing that Suzie lived her life with compassion, courage, faith, and SO MUCH laughter! She is with God and has been reunited with the man who made her heart skip a beat since they were in high school.
There will be a visitation on Thursday, Dec. 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, Dec. 29 at 11 a.m. with a luncheon following the service. Both services will be at the Three Rivers Presbyterian Church, 320 N Main St, Three Rivers, Mich. 49093.
In honor of Suzie, we invite everyone to wear bright colors to celebrate how vibrant she was and how she lived each day with joy.
Memorial donations may be directed to Three Rivers Presbyterian Church or the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the church or at Hohner Funeral Home. Online condolences may be shared at
