Shorthanded Vikings fall short against nationally-ranked Rock Valley

ROCKFORD, Ill. — The Glen Oaks Community College men’s basketball team is still searching for its first win of the season after an 81-51 loss at Rock Valley College Saturday.
Rock Valley improves to 8-1 overall and is ranked No. 7 in the Division 3 National Junior College Athletic Association poll.
Glen Oaks is now 0-6 this season.
Christian Oakley scored a game-high 25 points to go with two assists and three steals for Glen Oaks. Melvin DeVeaux added 14 points, five rebounds and two steals.
“I was extremely proud of how hard we played in his game,” said Glen Oaks men’s coach David Victor. “We knew we had a challenge in front of us. They were a top 10 team and we only had six players available for the game. But we showed greater discipline on offense with our shot selection and patience, the shots just didn’t fall enough.
“We played solid defense. We have a lot of positives to take from this game. We will continue to work and get better, and hopefully that will show in our next game against Mid Michigan.”
