Schneider signs volleyball letter of intent with Olivet College

THREE RIVERS — Three Rivers High School senior volleyball standout Morgan Schneider signed a national letter of intent Friday with Olivet College.
Schneider, who has lettered four years in volleyball and basketball, selected the Division III school located in Olivet because of its size.
“I went and visited the campus the Tuesday before Thanksgiving break. When I was there they offered me a position on the volleyball team. I got to tour the campus and meet with some professors,” Schneider said. “It is just really small and that’s something I really like. Having smaller class sizes will be beneficial.”
Schneider intends to try out for the libero position, the same spot she played at Three Rivers, for the Lady Comets Volleyball Program next fall.
“Olivet is a private school so they can’t give out scholarships. Their coach has been there three years and they are kind of rebuilding the program. Their libero is a senior this year so that position is open,” Schneider said.
“I’m kind of using volleyball as something I like to do, but it will also help me stay focused on my academics too.”
Schneider feels being a defensive specialist at Three Rivers will help her at the next level.
“I got to play libero several matches this season and I felt confident in that spot. Our coaches (Erik Kore and Tricia Van Oss) really helped and inspired me to do well.”
Olivet finished 13-16 overall, including a 4-12 mark in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association in the 2016 season.
The Lady Comets are coached by Megan Merchant.
