Fabius Planning Comm. sets public hearing date for Master Plan

FABIUS TWP. — Residents of Fabius Township will soon have their opportunity to weigh in on their proposed master plan update before it’s sent to the township’s board.

The Fabius Township Planning Commission announced at their Aug. 9 meeting that a public hearing to gather feedback on the updated master plan will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 11 during their regular meeting beginning at 7 p.m. at the Fabius Township Hall, located at 13108 Broadway Rd.

Planning Commission Chair Randy Schmeling said the public hearing will give people a chance to comment on the plan, with the board discussing the matter after the public has a chance to comment.

The proposed master plan update can be found on Fabius Township’s website at fabiustownship.org in the “Quick Links” section on the main page.

Schmeling also gave an update on the plan’s progress saying while the mailing of the proposed updated master plan to surrounding municipalities and entities had to be re-done due to not having a public hearing date listed originally, the mailing has been completed. Those recipients have 42 days to submit comments on the master plan if they so choose.

The commission is planning on fixing some “clerical errors” and typos in the updated master plan, Schmeling said, but did not make a final decision on that during the meeting. Some of the fixes proposed include taking out a “next steps” section that isn’t needed, fixing an error on a data table, and removing the public comments from the final document. Schmeling said the comments, which will still be available on the online version, would be taken out due to the specific nature of some of the comments, per a discussion they had with their attorney. The version of the updated plan sent to the municipalities and entities include the public comments at this point.

Schmeling said more discussion on the updated plan will occur at their September meeting.

The planning commission also had a brief discussion during the meeting about the township’s proposed solar ordinance, going over potential tweaks to the language, however no action was taken due to the absence of board members Cliff Maxwell and Mary Stalter.
