Dispatcher helps deliver baby boy
CENTREVILLE — St. Joseph County E-911 Central Dispatch telecommunicator Rachel Cook helped deliver a baby over the phone, with the assistance of Central Dispatch’s medical program.
According to the Central Dispatch Facebook page: “On Oct. 13, 2016, at 5:44 a.m., Rachel Cook answered a 9-1-1 call from the mother of woman in labor and about to deliver. Rachel displayed extreme control and calmness throughout the entire call. Rachel gave … precise instruction on how to handle the birth. Through Rachel’s calming voice and guidance the baby boy was born at 5:47 a.m. Rachel continued to reassure the grandmother and the new mother to keep them calm and informed of the status of responding Emergency personnel.
