‘Post Everlasting’ held for longtime member
THREE RIVERS — The Three Rivers American Legion Hice-Shutes Post #170 held a “Post Everlasting” on Thursday, Oct. 13 for longtime member Raymond Arthur Huddleston.
Huddleston, who died Monday, Aug. 8 at the age of 92, entered the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and served during World War II. He was a life member of the post where for many years he was in charge of the Post kitchen. He held the office of Post Adjutant for six years, and helped with many other duties at the Post.
“This moment is sacred with the almost presence of the one who has gone before,” Commander Bill Newman said. “We come to honor the memory of one who has offered his life in the service of our country and has now enrolled in that great army, whose footfalls cause no sound, but in the memory of mankind, their souls go marching on, sustained by the pride of service in time of war. Because of them our lives are free; because of them our nation lives; because of them the world is blessed. May this service deepen our reverence for our departed comrades.”
