Young adults should organize against fossil fuel industry

To the editor:
The groups most likely to be negatively affected by climate change are those below the age of 40. They should be the spokespeople for any movement that discourages the use of fossil fuels. On Dec. 14 in Niles there was a public hearing for residents to voice their support or concerns about a proposed gas fired power plant to be built in Niles.
The majority of the comments were made by middle aged adults and most of the positive comments were based on the short term economic benefits to the community. The negative comments were based on effects on air quality, noise, traffic congestion and effects on nearby communities.
I was disappointed that there was no representation by younger adults who have the most to lose by global warming. Unless this group stands up and organizes against the fossil fuel industry I fear that there will be no future for them.
