Have a heart, let the children have this sports complex

To the editor:
I would venture to say the ones who oppose the new sports complex do not have grandchildren or have never been to a soccer game and seen the smiles on the kids’ faces.
Most of these kids come off the field with smiles win or lose from about 5 years old on up. When tournament times come around if they are played here you don’t know the money that it brings in from players and parents who come to town to play. Most will use our motels, gas stations and grocery stores.
As a grandparent who has three players I love to watch them play. Try going to one of the indoor arenas in Portage or Oshtemo on weekends they are packed and that’s just soccer not counting baseball or football and I for one would rather my grandsons are playing soccer than out doing drugs or breaking into your home close to where they want to put the complex.
Right now the property sits vacant and you have noise from whoever wants to ride their ATVs or whatever. Wouldn’t you rather have a nice walking path without the fear of getting hit by a car?
So come on, have a heart, let the children have this sports complex.
As for upkeep the AYSO soccer is all volunteers and I for one would volunteer to do that and bet you would have no problem finding others.
I could go on and on with a list of benefits but don’t have the space here. Thanks for reading.
